Preliminaries

The choice of ends is decided by the toss of a coin. The team winning the toss decides which goal it whishes to attack in the first half of the match. The other team takes the kick-off to start the match.

Kick Off

The kick-off is a way of starting or restarting play: -

·        At the start of the match

·        After a goal has been scored

·        At the start of the second half of the match

A goal may be scored directly from the kick-off.

Kick Off Procedure

·        All players are in their own half of the field

·        The opponents of the team taking the kick off are at least 2m from the ball until it is in play.

·        The ball is stationary on the center spot.

·        The referee gives a signal

·        The ball is in play when it is kicked and moves forward

·        The kicker may not touch the ball a second time until it has touched another player.

After a team scores a goal, the other team takes the kick off.

If the kicker touches the ball a second time before it has touched another player:

·        A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team to be taken from the place where the infringement occurred. For any other infringement of the kick off procedure the kick off is retaken

Ball Out Of Play

The ball is out of play when:

·        It has wholly crossed the goal line or touch line, whether on the ground or in the air

·        Play has been stopped by the referee

Throw In

When the ball leaves the playing area over the sidelines, it must be re-entered into play via an underarm bowling action and must not be throw above 1 foot. All defending players must be 2 meters away from where the throw-in is taken.

Corner

When the ball leaves the playing area over the goal line from a defending teams touch a corner is awarded. This is to be taken from the corner of the pitch the ball left from and can be re-entered into play via a kick.

Ball In Play

The ball is in play at all other times including when:

·        It rebounds from a goal post or the crossbar

·        It rebounds from the referee when on the pitch

Goals Scored

A goal is scored when the whole of the ball passes over the goal line, between the goalposts and under the crossbar, unless it has been thrown, carried or intentionally propelled by the hand or arm by a player of the attacking side, the goalkeeper included.

Winning Team

The team scoring the greater amount of goals during a match is the winner. If both teams score an equal number of goals or if no goals are scored, the match is drawn.

Off Side

There is no offside rule.

Foul Play

Charging and sliding tackles are not permitted and shall be penalized by the award of a direct free kick.

A player who unfairly impedes the process of an opponent when not playing the ball shall be penalized by the award of a direct free kick.

Red and Blue Cards

The referee has the option to give an offending player a Blue card (this replaces the old Yellow card). The player then has to leave the pitch for a 8-minute sin-bin period. If the same player receives another Blue card once he is permitted back onto the field of play, this will result in the player being sent off for the remainder of the match.

1 x Blue card = 8 minute sin-bin

2 x Blue cards = Sending off

1 x Red card = Sending off

Red card offenses will be reported to the Somerset FA and could affect any other football played outside of Fever Pitch Fives.

Dead Ball Situations

All defending players must be 5 meters away from where the free kick, corner or goalkeepers throw out is taking place until the ball is back in play.

Penalty Kick

A penalty kick shall be taken from the penalty spot with only a 1-step approach and, except for the defending goalkeeper, only the player taking the free kick can enter the penalty area and for that purpose only. Whether or not a goal is scored from the kick the player concerned must leave the penalty area immediately after taking the kick and before taking any further part in play.

Play Within The Penalty Area

Both defending and attacking players are permitted inside the penalty area.

Goal Keepers Rules

The Goal Keeper can return the ball into play by the means of an underarm throw only and must not be thrown higher than 1 foot. This will result in a direct free kick from where the ball was released.

He is allowed to leave his area at any time and will be treated as an out field player when he does.

The Goal Keeper can pick the ball up from a pass back and distribute it via an under arm throw or by dropping the ball and kicking it out. Once the ball is dropped it cannot be picked up again.

He can only dive at player’s feet with his hands. If he dives in with his feet, this is deemed to be a slide tackle and will result in a penalty if committed inside the penalty area or a direct free kick if committed outside his area.

Disciplinary Procedure

The yellow card has been replaced by the blue card. The blue card equals a 8-minute sin bin and will be awarded for a bookable offence. 2 blue cards in 1 game will result in a red card and the player will be sent off. This instance will not be punishable with a ban.

For more serious offenses such as foul and abusive language and/or gestures towards an official or another player will result in a straight red card and a 3 match ban will be received.

Serious foul play or attempting to kick or strike another player will result in a straight red card and an initial 3-match ban from Fever Pitch Fives. The official in charge will send a report to the Somerset FA who will deal with the issue. This will result in a fine and a lengthy official ban from all FA affiliated football including Saturday and Sunday 11-a-side football.

Please ensure all your players are aware of the procedures described above.
